2022 Review

Having started the year very sleep deprived having become a new mum a few months before, 2022 was a bit of a blur if I’m honest.  The year started with the announcement that I was to be one of TOAST’s New Makers.  I was one of five makers, picked by the brand for their flagship programme that aims to support craftspeople.  The programme offers a platform for emerging makers whose “work demonstrates skill, originality and craftsmanship”.  It was a bit of a revelation to realise the level of interest in my work from across the pond, with most of my orders coming from the US. I definitely think there is a real appreciation for craft as art in America, that isn’t always present here in the UK.

I was also delighted to be invited by Cubitt’s to take part in their charity lens cloth initiative, using a detail of my piece Untitled I, as the design for the cloth, you can read more about the collaboration here.  The piece was part of a new triptych shown at Artefact 2022, my first show with new representatives Cavaliero Finn Gallery

Skills sharing was a running theme of the year, having run workshops for Cubitt’s, the Art Workers Guild, and the Ruskin Library & Museum as well as hosting an Instagram event with TOAST Live demonstrating my dyeing process. These short taster workshops and demonstrations really cemented my desire to pass on my skills through teaching, having thoroughly enjoyed last year I am very excited to finally be offering one day frame weaving workshops from Summer 2023!

It was a great year press-wise too with articles in The Financial Times, ES Magazine, Crafts Magazine, Country & Townhouse Magazine, ELLE Decoration and the New York Times Magazine (US).

Next year will kick off with Collect 2023, I will be showing new work there for the first time with Cavaliero Finn Gallery
